6 books that rocked my world in 2011.

I am one of those people who just loves to read. I have been that way since I was 8 years old and discovered I could wander out of the children's section of the library and into the world of real, adult, books. Books that were not all pictures and easy sentence. Books that had real stories and would tell me things about the world that I could not find out from asking adults who deemed me just a child.

I renewed my library card this year to save money on books since I am not having the excess cash for book buying that I used to. I found that renewing the library card has freed me up to read all sorts of books I would not have picked up if I were to buy books. I think that was the best move I made all year in 2011.

I ended up reading about 87 books that year. A lot, I know, but I am a fast reader so it seemed like not that many to me. There were a few stand-outs and I want to share them here with you.

#1:

Ready Player One was the book that blew me away this year. It is set in the future when the world has gone to crap due to over-population and lack of resources to support this. Most people live in a virtual reality world called OASIS. They work, go to school, socialize, shop, play games, and do almost everything in OASIS by use of virtual reality headsets and controllers. The creator of OASIS dies and decides to leave control over OASIS (and through that, the world) to whomever can complete the scavenger hunt with the virtual world. Wade Watts, a 17 year old, decides he will try to win and has to compete against friends as well as an evil corporation who seeks to control OASIS. A very fun read full of 80's/90s pop culture and geek culture references.

#2:

What can I say about George R.R. Marin's latest book in A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Dance With Dragons? I may be biased because I love this series almost as much as I love Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series. It does not follow a lot of the characters in Martin's world but it furthers the story and left me wishing the next book was already written. I missed Jaime Lannister a bit but have hope he will be in the next book in the series since his character had a bit of setting up for the next book in this one. Lost of fans are starting to complain about how the story is dragging and how dare Martin not focus on certain characters. Me? I enjoy the ride and the story as it progresses and don't try to force how I want the story to be on an author. It is the author's story to tell. So, I loved this book and eagerly await the next book in the series. I miss the characters and wonder what they are up to.

#3:

I picked up The Radleys after seeing a write up about the book in a magazine. I totally enjoyed it. It was fun to read about a modern-day vampire family that is trying hard to fit into to normal life. The parents are hiding what the family is, vampire, from their teenage children. They are living the life of abstainers (from blood) and suffering through the health effects that brings just to be normal. Then their daughter Clara decides to go vegan with horrible consequences that force the Radleys to face what they really are. Throw in a uncle who is nothing but trouble coming around to "help" the family with the fall-out of Clara's situation and add a bunch of sarcastic humor. It makes for great reading and Matt Haig really really does a great job of creating his own vampire rules within the story.

#4:

Room is a book that blew me away. Jack is a child who grew up in one, small, room that was his entire world. Literally. His mother was kidnapped and held captive by her kidnapper in the room. Jack is a child she had with her kidnapper. Ma tries to make his childhood happy in this small space but she never gives up hope of escaping. Finally, when jack is 7 she sees the chance and has Jack escape and bring help back to her. The book deals with the aftermath of this and how hard it is for Jack, and his ma, to adapt to normal life after seven years in the room. It is a riveting read and I ended up reading it, without stopping, straight through to the end.

#5:

I wasn't sure I would like Divergent when I first picked it up. I had been burned by The Hunger Games series that ended on a real sour note and with a big mess of a book. It had me skeptical about the whole "after the world ends society" genre...especially when it came to young adult books. I was truly glad I took a chance to read this book because it blew Hunger Games out of the water. Roth's world is fully realized and violent but her heroine is made of tougher stuff than Hunger Game's Katniss. Katniss wishes she were as tough and cool as Divergent's Beatrice! I enjoyed the fact that Beatrice knew what she wanted and was certain on what boy she loved. She also was not afraid to fight for her family and what she believed in. So refreshing in a YA literary world full of weak females waiting around for a boy to love them. Beatrice kicks ass and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

#6:

In 2010, I was at Comic Con in San Diego. I had heard about American Vampire in Entertainment Weekly so when I saw the first issue of the comic was on sale, I went to purchase it. To my surprise the woman at the booth where this comic was being sold said, "Oh the artist is at a table signing right this moment! Come with me and you can get it signed!" So, I was lead over the the table where Rafael Albuquerque signed my comic. Fast forward to 2012 and American Vampire Vol. 1 is released and I pick it up to see how the story-line progresses. It is totally involving and exciting! The art in it is perfect for the story and I ended up reading Vol 2. as well. Now I eagerly await Vol. 3 in the world of American Vampire. Definitely a great comic to check out if you love vampire stories.

And those are the books that rocked my world last year. It will be interesting to see what books catch my fancy in 2012. There is a whole year ahead and it is perfect for reading.

Curses, Foiled Again!

I have been waiting (and waiting, and waiting, and waiting...) for snow to fall and stay on the ground this winter but it seems Mother Nature does not want to make this happen.

We received a skiff of snow the other day but it has already melted. It is currently raining when it was forecast we would get snow so the world will not be white when I wake up tomorrow morning. This really is disappointing to me because I was hoping to get some snow themed photo shoots set up and we are into January with no snow in sight.

I may have to rethink my photo shoot plans and instead have grey, bare, wet, background for some shoots near the end of the month. I guess the bright side of this is that I can really get a grungy. urban, look when shooting downtown with that sort of setting. Still, it would be cool if it would snow so I could stick to my original plans.

Evolution of the Superheroes Project.

I started the Superheroes Project in 2010 after talking to a comic book artist friend who was interested in working with a photographer who would take photos of people so he could convert them to drawings and show the process in a book.

I figured why not give it a shot and if all else fails, I can do the photo portion of project on my own and maybe offer it as a photography style along with my portraiture. Halloween always is a great time of year to take photos of people who want to pose in costume so I could always have that as an option in my photography business.

I did a lot of test shoots and I will share a few photos from them here.

I was trying to get a style down and explore concepts to get something I could build off of in future shoots. This was my first ever shoot for the project and this was the image that sticks out in my mind. I wish the buildings were taller in the background of the photo but it was a difficult location to get to for the model and for me to shoot since I had to shoot up while balanced on rocks. I had a lot of "trial and error" during this shoot and learned a lot while doing it.

I then set up another shoot and shot a model that I have used before in different locations downtown to get an idea of if certain locations would work for the shoots I was planning for the projects.

Lexi did not have access to a costume at the time of the shoot so I took photos of her to test out locations because she is a fierce pose thrower and super easy to work with as a model.

From there I built on what I learned in the test shoots and got to where I am today with the project.

I hope only to expand on the project and improve with posing/location in the future as the project continues on into 2012.

It has been a rough end to 2011 and a weird start to 2012. Yes, that is my reason for not updating this blog for so long. I know many of you will find that rather a lame excuse but it is the reality of my life right now.

I am hoping to get back into the swing of blogging within the next few weeks after kick starting projects and getting some life things squared away. After all, 2012 is a new year and I am thinking it won't be that bad of a year.

So, keep an eye on this blog. Watch it continue to slowly evolve and see what photos I share.

I have been tardy to writing posts in this blog lately. Life has been a mess of being busy, getting over a nasty cold, and trying to get out of the house with friends as much as possible.

I had one last Superheroes/Villains shoot for 2011 in late Nov.

Kym was a very energetic model who showed up with all her martial arts swords, knives, and a brand new bow staff. Yes, she actually practices martial arts and knows how to use all the above! She was also a trooper when it came to the very cold weather we were dealing with during the shoot. I was just happy the snow held off until the next day!

I am now taking a break from this project for the holidays. I am hoping over this break-time to have snow fall and blanke the local world with white so I can use snow as a backdrop for future photo shoots. Cross your fingers for me to have that opportunity this winter.

Tank Girl in October.

I had a final October Superheros/Villains/Comic Character shoot with Amy as Tank Girl.

Amy was a lot of fun to shoot and is an make-up artist and is in the film Knights of Badassdom (Yes, this film was shot in Spokane!) that is coming out soonish. She has a smaller part but gets to kick all kinds of demon ass in the film.

I got to try out a new location for the shoot and may use it in the future because the old buildings are great background. I have only just started to explore the area and there is still other parts of it that I want to try as backdrop in photos.

I have another shoot I am editing for this project that I beat the snow by shooting on Sunday, Nov. the 13th. It was cold as heck but I managed to get some great shots. Cannot wait to share an example from the shot here after I am done editing.

I will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday and then see if we cannot get some lasting snow that I can use as backdrop in future shoots.

Willard Asylum Suitcase Project by Jon Crispin.

I was doing a bit of wandering around online tonight and came across this wonderful project that the photographer Jon Crispin is undertaking.

He is raising money to fun this project on Kickstarter (and you can view the video about the project there since it will not embed correctly!) and hopes to maybe share it on completion as a book or some other form of artistic medium.

I would definitely buy a book of these images since these suitcases show who the people were through their personal effects and most of them never left the asylum after entering it. As a lover of history seeing these photos he is taking of the personal belongings really fascinates me. It also gives you a look at who the people were before/as they were overtaken by mental illness.

I am so glad to come across this project and hope that Crispin is able to publish a book of his images of the suitcases sometime in the future.

Johnny as Albert Wesker from Resident Evil

Another photo shoot from my superheroes/villains project went without too many hitches.

Johnny dressed as his version of Albert Wesker from Resident Evil and we tried locations near my home since we both were in the same area that day. We dodged the racing clouds and rain to do the shoot in just an hour and 15 minutes time.

I am happy with some of the results and will show you on of my favorites here

This shoot had a lot of really cool images and I am very happy with them. I am not sure which one to send my partner in this project to draw.

Jared Photo Shoot

I took a little break from my superheroes/villains photo project and did a straight-forward photo shoot of a model, Jared, to just have some new images to add to my site.

I am smack dab in the middle of editing a few photo shoots and have another this weekend. Yes, Halloween has brought out the models willing to pose in costume and I am reaping the benefits from it.

I enjoy being this busy though at times the editing makes me feel like my eyes are crossing. At least I know that it is time to take a break when I cannot focus my eyes anymore during the editing work.

Body Butter Love: Whipped Up Body Butter by mark

Spokane has a very dry climate. I am sure that must surprise many people since Washington state has the reputation of being rainy. The rain mainly falls on the west side of the state and Spokane is on the east side. So, the air can be very dry since we could be classified as "high desert" except it is a desert of pine trees and lava rock. This leads to a lot of parched skin since the air is less than moist. I end up buying a lot of different moisturizers because of this.

I recently gave mark's Whipped Body Butter a try and really like it.

It has a nice, non-greasy, feel to it and makes my skin very soft. It also seems to lock moisture into my skin. It has a pleasant scent that can be a tiny bit over-powering at first but lightens up shortly after you apply it. You really don't need a lot of the product for coverage so a little dab goes a long way.

A really nice thing? It is only $10.00 so it doesn't cost too much.

Right now the only scent available is the Lemon Sugar scent but soon a Pear Blossom scent in this product will be released.

I definitely give this product a thumbs up.

Supergirl! Violin Player! More!

I have been a bit busy recently and unable to update my blog. Boo and hiss at me if you must but it is true.

What have I been up to you ask?

I have been working on my superheroes/villains project, trying to pull together a hanging of my macro flowers photos locally, house sitting/feeding a neighbors cat, and worrying about paying bills since I am broke. So, yeah, I have been busy and rather scattered in my thinking recently.

I am currently editing photos from a recent photo shoot and will share a photo from one I had in the later days of August.

I have a few superhero/villain shoots this month and have time for to paying portrait sessions as well. Hopefully, I will find a few interested parties who would like to pay me for photos.

Other than that I have been reading quite a bit now that I have re upped on my library card. I have long loved the library, even though I love to buy books, because I can read anything without having buyer's remorse if the book is not good. They also have the option to put books on hold through the online site so I can just run in and pick them up when notified. Huge plus for me since I can pick up the books I want while running errands.

I have to mention I won a North Face jacket in their Spokane store opening Twitter contest. It is windbreaker in style and will be good for those warmer days when it is windy/drizzly. The jacket is waterproof as well which is a huge plus. The jacket should come in handy for heading out on photo shoots here where the weather can change in minutes.

When I was downtown on my errand to pick up the won jacket yesterday, I happened upon this electric violin player who was playing right outside Riverpark Square.

He was quite good and I listened to him while waiting for my ride to pick me up. He was making quite a bit of cash from his street playing because he was really good, as in "should put out a CD" good. I wish I had caught his name but I didn't have a chance after he was mobbed by listeners between songs.

Frida Kahlo, an artist I love, and footage of her.

I have long been a fan of Frida Kahlo's painting.

Who is Frida Kahlo you wonder? She is a Mexican painter in the early 20th century who definitely had her own style of painting. She painted a couple murals and married the Mexican painter Diego Rivera. She had many affairs with famous people. She was a beautiful woman and carried herself in a way that you can tell she was aware of this fact. She lived large in the sense that she embraced life despite being in pain.

Kahlo was in a lot of pain for most of her life because she was in a streetcar accident as a young woman in which one of the bars from the center of the car impaled her through her lower abdomen. That accident made her unable to have children (she would lose many babies when she attempted until the doctors told her she should stop harming her body that way), the accident caused her to have numerous operations throughout her life, and made her unable to sit/stand up for long in later life.

I happened across this video that has old footage of her (and some of her with Diego Rivera, the plump, older, man you see her with) while wandering around online and it was exciting for me because I had never seen it before.

I wrote a 20 page paper on her life and art when I was studying Fine Art as a 19 year old. I also have been lucky enough to see an exhibition of her work when I lived in San Diego. It is quite stunning and colourful, as well as some of the imagery being a bit grotesque in nature because she would paint about what she knew; including her hospital stays, operations, and miscarriages.

I just thought I would share about a painter that interests me.

I have struggled for years with my wild eyebrows that have hair that grows in odd angles. It doesn't matter the thickness, the hairs point all over the place. I admit to using hairspray (sprayed into hand and applied by fingertip) to control them and have the lay correctly. That is, I used hairspray until I found this product by Avon.

This product gets my eyebrows under control! It also doesn't make the eyebrow hair stiff. It lasts all day, is colourless, and even seals the brow pencil to your face a bit so it doesn't wear off as easily. I even wore it out in 90+ degree heat and it kept my eyebrows under control.

I highly recommend it and will not be going back to my hairspray trick as long as Avon makes this product.

Labor Day Weekend Means Spokane Pig's Out At The Park.

Labor Day weekend is coming to a close and for many, this means the end of summer. As for me, I don't count summer as over until the weather cools off and the leaves start to change colour. The forecast for this week is 90+ (F) temps and to me, that means summer is hanging around for a while. I do admit that the cooler nights are definitely feeling a bit Fall-like though.

I didn't have a Labor Day weekend full of activity but I did get out on Saturday to Spokane's Pig Out At the Park. I met up with some friends and we ate food, listened to music, enjoyed the warm weather (I got a bit sun burnt but do not mind.), and people watched since the event was very crowded. It was a really fun day and I hope that the colder weather doesn't stop the fun of meeting up with people to enjoy days like this.

Now, Labor Day weekend draws to a close. I am a bit saddened by this because it is seen as the end of summer and summer is my favorite season.

Macro Flowers Type Of Day.

It helped keep me sane yesterday and my mind off things that have been stressing me out lately.

This afternoon I shall be heading to Pig Out At The Park (Yes, awful name for an event.) with my friend Maria. I will be eating some mediocre food, listening to many different types of music, enjoying the warm day, and doing a lot of people watching at this event. I will also try and take a few photos while there.

Summer has reached it's end and I can admit that I am very sad to see it go. I wish it would stay summer and I could get out and enjoy the sun for many more months. The sadness of being a California girl stuck in a colder climate.

I hope everyone else is enjoying the end of summer, or if in the southern hemisphere that you are experiencing warmer days. You southern hemisphere dwellers, I envy you your warming days!

Tiny Bit Of A Break From Fashion.

I am taking a little time off from blogging to figure out what the heck to do with myself. I feel a bit like I am spinning my wheels and not accomplishing all that much. So, I am reading a lot of historical books and taking notes in a research for character in book way. It makes me feel like I am doing something and less like I am hitting a brick wall.

I have also been avoiding being online for very long due to super hot weather which makes it uncomfortable to sit in front of the computer screen. I have been hanging out with my friend Maria and taking photos of pets. For example, here is one of Matilda.

I am hoping to head down to Pig Out At The Park (horrid name for an event, I know) this Saturday and take some photos while there. I am feeling the whole "taking photos" thing a lot at the moment. I just need some paying gigs.

As Fall creeps in I hope to get back to blogging a little more regularly. So, keep checking in to see what I am writing about.

Summer activities and distractions.

The Fall fashion magazines are arriving in the mail in all the glorious thickness. I am starting to pour over them and love things that are shown in photos within the covers of the likes of Elle and Vogue.

Sadly, I am tapped out when it comes to money so will not get to indulge in buying any new Fall clothing items this year. It makes em sad since there are things I would love to own but I am also sure I can make it through with the clothing I own at the moment from past years. I do wish I owned more than jeans though but I will make it through with just jeans.

It is funny how being broke really makes a person see how much they already own and how the worry of paying bills trumps buying anything but the essentials. I guess I am one of those people that only spends when I know I have cash coming into my account at a semi-regular basis. This is a good thing and it's time for me to be a bit frugal and not buy things that are unnecessary.

I have been distracting myself from money issues by looking at magazines and online to see what fashion appeals to me this season. I have also been getting out of the house more and trying to amp up my creativity because that is the road to happiness for me.

As an example of things I have been doing recently. I spent a day in Manito Park taking flower photos, chatting with my friend Maria, and eating at the park's Manito Park Bench Cafe. It was a wonderful day and I did get a bit sun burnt but it was so worth it. I took many great images while there.

Distraction can be a lot of fun and heaven knows many of us need that right now. I will continuing to head out and do fun things at least once a week until life starts to ease up on the economic side.

I am a shoe girl. There is just no denying it. I also like footwear that the average person would consider "weird." Guilty as charged! I just love styles that are new and different when it comes to shows.

I love ponchos and the open crochet style, colour, and the fact that this poncho is hooded really appeal to me.

I love slouchy, comfy, pullovers because they are perfect for those days when I just prefer comfort over being very dressy. I would wear this pullover around the house on those days when I wanted to get out of my pajamas into clothes to hang out in.

I saw an upscale version of this cuff with silken cords instead of suedette straps at Cues downtown. I so wished I had the money for that version but, like a lot of people, I am having to watch every cent recently. This Forever 21 version would be fine and captures the spirit of the cuff I saw.

I am not picturing myself doing a lot of shopping this Fall. I am sure I will be relying on what I already own and trying to mix and match outfits from my closet. It should be fun and a bit challenging at times since I love to shop but haven't the money to this year. I am going to be doing a ton of loving things from afar and not buying them.

She stayed with us for 3 weeks with the high school group (with teacher) were in the area since the group all gets "homestay" with host families while they are in town. They come every year for 3 weeks to experience American culture and practice English, have an American experience really.

Makio, the Japanese teacher with the group did not stay with us due to his pet allergies. My family did, however, drive him to activities and my parents gave him a ride to class each day. He gifted my family before leaving with many Japanese items. I ended up with the Japanese house slippers.

I am back from San Diego and had a lovely time at San Diego Comic Con!

Since being back there has been a house guest from Japan and I have been trying to schedule photo shoots...as well as worrying a bit about money.

Still, SDCC was fun! I actually sat this close to the stage during the True Blood panel!

I have been caught up in San Diego Comic Con preparations recently. I cannot wait to get to the event and have fun. I have also been working on editing my last photo shoot and getting that all done with before my next photo shoot when will be after I return home from San Diego. By this time next week, I will be at San Diego Comic Con. This time away is much looked forward to by me and could not come at a better time.

You see, my life has had a few setbacks in recent days and a whole lot of negative energy has flowed my way from almost everyone I interact with. Some plans I had have fallen through and I am going to be struggling to figure out what the hell to do when it comes aspects of my life. I am feeling frustrated and like I need to primal scream out my disappointment, frustration, and annoyance at life as it is for me. Too bad it is the wee morning hours so actually carrying out a primal scream can not happen.

I feel as if I really need to catch a break. I am tired of being socked in the face without warning by life and feeling helpless in my destiny despite efforts to get a hold on it. I hate feeling like a victim of forces that affect my life that are totally out of my hands.

So, Comic Con could not come at a better time. I need the 4 days away from what is going on here and have the chance to enjoy myself, meet up with friends, have positive energy around me, and just feel like I am myself again. Comic Con always recharges my batteries and amps up my creativity. I am definitely looking forward to that.

And the margaritas and good Mexican food that San Diego offers.

SuperSHOCK Mascara- Thumbs Up!

I decided to give Avon's SuperSHOCK Max Mascara a try since I have been trying out various brands and trying to find an everyday mascara that really enhanced my lashes. I saw SuperSHOCK Max in the Avon catalog so placed an order.

The mascara really coats each lash and doesn't flake. That is a real worry of mine as a contact wearer...that the mascara will flake and irritate my eyes. It also is not too stiff once dry which can also be a problem with mascaras. I am not a fan of spike-y lashes.

It is a bit clumpy going on but a comb through with a lash comb fixes that as does taking excess off the brush before you apply it to lashes. Really easy application and it does enhance the lashes well.

It doesn't make you look like you have false lashes which is fine because mascaras that claim that are full of crap. Only fake lashes will give you a fake lash look.

I would definitely buy this mascara again and recommend it to ladies who want to have every lash coated by mascara so their lashes have a bit more pop to them.

Grey Corduroy Pants Love!

It has been many years since I have owned a pair of corduroy pants. The last pair I acquired were secondhand from a friend and though I loved their burgundy shade, they did no fit me quite right. I just had to let them go to someone they would fit better.

Now, as summer finally heats up, I am seeing Fall clothing creeping into online sites. Mixing with summer clothing in such temperature inappropriate ways. It gets me thinking about Fall and when I see a great pair of corduroy pants like there:

Revisiting ESPRIT.

I remember in the 7th grade always being admiring of a fellow student who sat next to me in Biology. I would try and cast covert glances (so not to creep her out) at her because her sense of style was far better than my fellow classmates and I always loved it. She was so funky, in an 80s way, and never wore the same outfit twice. Yes, you read that last part right, she never wore the same outfit twice.

How was a 12/13 year old able to accomplish that? Her dad worked for ESPRIT I found out when she caught me sideways glancing at her one too many times during class. I finally, shyly, admitted I was admiring her clothes and loved the blue shirt she was wearing that day. She in turn filled me in on how her father worked for ESPRIT and how she was a bit embarrassed to own so many clothes because her family was by no means rich. Her father just brought home the clothing for her so she wore it. She seemed a bit embarrassed by it all but I always that it was a pretty cool deal.

ESPRIT was THE brand back in the early 1980s, at least for the 12-15 year old set. It was funky, fun, and well made. Every tween and young teen wanted at least one item of ESPRIT clothing in her wardrobe. It was a brand you begged and pleaded for from your parents. I managed to get an ESPRIT top from my mum that way and I wore it more often than not throughout my 7th grade year.

As all brands, ESPRIT faded from being the "IT" clothing brand and I had hardly thought out it since the 7th grade. At least until I saw an ad for the brand today in my inbox. I decided to wander to the ESPRIT site and see what the brand offered today.

I was pleasantly surprised.

ESPRIT seems to have grown into a brand that is much more mature and both trendy, as well as full of classic basics.

The clothing is actually rather affordable (with some higher priced items thrown in as well) and could be used for work, or days off. It is also very grown up. I could easily add any of the basics offered or even go for one of their tunics.

I am loving the stitch detailing!

I had never owned a pair of pumps until this past Dec. when I was gifted a pair for Christmas. I haven't gotten to wear them that much yet but when I got them it was snowing and the snow stayed on the ground extremely long this year. I am thinking I will wear them more this Fall.

I like the style of pumps but have issues with my little toe rubbing against the inside of the shoe. I got the correct size for me since the smaller size would be too small and the next size up were too large.

Anyone know who to remedy this "pumps rub little toe" problem?

Burberry Prorsum Trousers Love!

I am staring at my closet often and realizing I own mainly jeans now. A few years ago you would not have found a pair of jeans in my entire wardrobe but I fell in love with flared jeans and now they take it over when it comes to pants. This means I have been trying to find pants that are not made of denim to add to my wardrobe and I am having little luck since it is hard to find pants that fit my tall, thin, woman hipped, frame just right.

I fear this will be an ongoing quest and I will have to just make do with jeans until I find a pair that suit me. I have been glancing online but everything I like just doesn't fit my style or my bank account.

For example, if I had the cash I would buy a pair of these:

They are perfect for Fall and I am loving the colour of tweed. I am usually not a "orange" fan but the rust of these trousers is gorgeous to me. The only problem is I do not have that sort of money to spend on them, despite them being a good investment and well-made.

In recent months I have stopped almost all my fashion buying due to lack of income to add to my wardrobe. Instead, I have been wearing what I own and using the make-up I own. I still look at new things that I could add to my wardrobe but seriously ask myself if I really "NEED IT" or just think I do. Most the time, I just think I do.

Tonight, I felt the urge to buy something hit my and decided to look at websites to see what is out there when it comes to fashion/season. Surprisingly, not much caught my eye. It seems a lot of things being offered look like expensive, wannabe, thrift store, fashion. Definitely not my style since it is more "Walmart thrift store find" as opposed to "YSL thrift store find" in looks. Rather disheartening to me since I love fashion.

I did find a few things I loved but do not have the money for at the moment.

Game Of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire

I have been wrapped up in reading George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. Yes, the books that Game of Thrones (the TV show) is based off of. I am enjoying them so much and am almost done with the third book in the series A Storm of Swords and cannot wait to start the next book A Feast of Crows.

I discovered the book series after reading in a magazine how it was being adapted by HBO into a television series. It fit in the genre that I love but am very careful about reading books in: historical fantasy. So many of the books in this genre are lame or boring...but not Martin's series.

Martin's writing is engaging and easy to read. You grow to really care about the characters and want to find out about new characters that are introduced as the series progresses. I know a lot of fans are now complaining he is spending too much time on "bit characters" instead of the originals to the series but I am enjoying finding out more about them and seeing how they get entwined in the storyline. I am loving the series and am curious to see it through to the end.

I have also been watching the TV series Game of Thrones and find it very well done.

Season one is almost complete and has it's finale this Sunday. So cool and exciting though I wish it were not ending the season quite yet!

I love how it is brave enough to cast actors that are well know (Hello Sean Bean!) as characters that get killed off! That takes a lot of balls since it is done but not all that often. I love how it has a medieval feel to it while being firmly planted in the world of fantasy with zombies and dragons...and magic. Perfect since it makes it feel like the story is based in realty or at least a world that could be real. And the way the show looks is perfect!

I highly recommend both the books and TV show to anyone who loves historical type fiction and doesn't mind a bit of fantasy mixed in with it.

I am checking back in at my blog after two weeks of house sitting and taking care of a new kitty.

Meet Matilda:

Matilda is 2 years old and was adopted from an animal shelter in Northern Idaho. Yes, my mum drove almost 2 hours to get her and then 2 hours back home. I went with my mum on the drive and helped keep Matilda company in the cat cage in the backseat on the way home.

Matilda is a sweet kitty and I had to watch her while my parents vacationed in southern California. Well, I had to watch her and my parent's 4 other animals (3 dogs and a cat). This means I had to keep Matilda separated in another room from the other animals yet not ignore her. A lot more involved than it sounds since each animal has so much you have to do with them and you add Matilda being separated to the mix and I am, basically, chained to the house while the parents are gone. Now my parents are home, Matilda is starting to be let out, supervised, to the rest of the house. She should be totally roaming free by Friday.

Anyway, that has made me M.I.A. to my blog for quite a while this month and not online a lot.

Sorry I have been M.I.A. I have been editing a photo shoot, a new cat has been adopted/is adjusting to the household, and the wireless modem died on me in the past week. Now, I am still editing the photo shoot, the cat is still adjusting to life here, and a new modem was bought. I am still have slight connectivity problems with the modem off and on and that needs to be ironed out.

But, I am still alive and am not purposely neglecting my blog. Life is just making it difficult to post here at the moment. I hope to get back to posting again soon.

I know I am straying a lot from fashion posts these days. I am just finding myself evolving as a person when it comes to my relationship with this blog. I am influenced by so many aspects of pop culture and creative areas of life that I have the urge to write about them.

I still love fashion but I am finding that I really struggle to write about it sometimes. At the moment, not a lot of the fashion really inspires me. It leaves me at a lose of what to write about so I feel like writing about other things that are catching my interest. So expect a bit more of a mix in this blog than before.

I guess this year is really one full of changes for me and I expect more to change before we are ringing in 2012.

Stand and Deliver: The Autobiography- My Review

I received the book Stand and Deliver:The Autobiography by Adam Ant from my UK friend Maz yesterday. Yes, she went out of her way and got it and sent it along to me since it is not easy to obtain in the US. I was so excited to get the package and to finally get to read the book! Much thanks to Maz!!!

I read the book almost straight through and was really intrigued by it. Adam Ant is very blunt about his life. Yes, it is his point of view on things that went on but then we all only can tell our own view of our lives and many of use would not be as forth-coming as he was in his book.

I liked hearing about his childhood and it was very interesting to me that he had a very poor childhood like a lot of the punk musicians/rock musicians who were born in the 1950s-60s seem to have had. This is not the first autobiography I have read that made me go "Damn....." when reading about a person's childhood. I have memories of reading John Lydon's Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs many years ago and having that "Damn...." moment about his childhood as well. In fact, reading Stand and Deliver makes me want to go back and reread Lydon's book.

The difference in Adam Ant's book is he went through his entire life struggling with bipolar disorder. Yes, a full on mental illness. He is actually still fighting the battle against it through he seems to be winning it these days and keeping it under control. The book shows how he used work, and yes, sex to keep the bipolar demons at bay. He would throw himself into both things to distract himself from his illness and then have huge burnouts when it finally caught up with him. He always knew he had this problem which made the struggle even harder.

He references his diary a lot since he started a diary and kept it pretty frequently throughout his career. This referencing situations he wrote about in his diary led to my favorite line in the whole book:

"Until writing this I had forgotten entirely about this episode, and rereading it in my diary now makes me think I blanked it out because it was so dumb."

That line tickled me and led to me laughing for a good minute straight. It was just such a "Ah Ha!" moment and I could see rereading about the situation and actually thinking that myself if it had happened to me. It is a rare person who would actually write about a situation in our lives that, well, made us look totally dumb. Props to him for that.

I really liked his writing of his finally totally hitting rock bottom in his struggle with being bipolar and addressing his arrest in 2002 which was a result of being bipolar. The chapters of the book dealing with this portion of his life were really interesting because it showed how he got help told of his plans which have led up to his recent tour that he is going on.

Overall, I really loved the book and the writing style kept me reading. If you are an Adam Ant fan...you need to read this book. I know I enjoyed finding out a lot about the singer that I enjoyed as a child in the early 80s and whom I rediscovered when I was 19, and very Gothic.

How can one resist the music of the "Dandy Highwayman"?

Getting ready for warm weather.

It seems Spokane is still a ways off from really warm weather since we haven't reached temperatures above 60 (F) yet this year. We are still getting fresh snow in the mountains this late in spring. It is keeping those leaves on the trees hiding and the grass as only just turned green again. It is not usual for spring around here but not unheard of either.

Still, I like to think positive and look forward instead of complaining too much about the cold, rainy weather we have been having. Heck, all the rain will really make things burst out in greens and colourful flowers the first really warm days we get. It is slowly starting to head in that direction so, *fingers crossed*, I am hopeful we will start warming up in the next week like the newscasters keep telling us we will.

I am applying the positive thinking to my wardrobe for summer. I have started rotating my shoes from winter to spring/summer and thinking out outfits to wear as the days slowly get warmer. I am even starting to get a few items to add to my wardrobe.

My mum gifted me with two mark from Avon fashion items this past week. Yes, my mum is an Avon lady and she has started to actually make a small profit off selling Avon to her exercise class and others who go to the gym she frequents. Go mum!

It has a detachable halter strap so you can wear the dress strapless or with a little extra "staying up" power. It is long enough for me which is rare since I am 5'9" in bare feet and love wearing heels.

I have a feeling I am going to get a lot of wear out of this when the temperatures are very hot and humid this summer and it is definitely packable so I may take it to San Diego with me when I head there for Comic Con in July.

I had seen these sandals in the mark brochure and knew they had to me mine. They are perfect for summer and appeal to the shoe girl inside me. They also fit me perfectly!

I cannot wait to start walking around outside in these sandals because they seem to be very comfortable for walking in due to the wedge heel and look good with jeans, shorts, skirts, or dresses. I think I am going to be getting a lot of wear out of them.

Now, if the weather would just hurry up and get a bit warmer...I could start wearing the gifts.

Ouch My Feet!

I received the new Urban Outfitters catalog in the mail and these shoes just jumped out at me from the pages:

Now, I am a lover of funky, unique, shoes but these? How the hell do you walk around in them without your poor feet screaming in pain after the first few minutes?

They have zero arch support so the whole time you walk in them the middle of your foot gets to flex in an uncomfortable way while your heel and ball of your foot hits the surface of the inner sole.

I am imagining my feet screaming for release from these shoes after a short walk across a mall or to the mailbox and back. I can see of no way these can be comfortable unless you spend the whole day sitting and only walking a few feet in any direction, and not often.

They just do not seem practical in even the slightest way to me and I know my feet would agree. I am usually a lover of Jeffrey Campbell shoes but lately? Most his designs look sore foot inspiring since they appear to be designed for women who never walk anywhere but are carried instead from place to place.

Has anyone slipped these babies so they can report on the comfort of them to confirm or deny my suspicions?

I am sure not many people know who Jackie Cooper is.

He was a movie star from the 1930s-50s and was a very famous child star since he started out in the "Our Gang" series of shorts in the 1930s.

The "Our Gang" shorts were played on afternoon tv when I was a child in the 1970s and hosted by Spanky McFarland who was a central cast member for a period of time in 1930s through 40s, and an adult by the 1970s. Back then, I didn't really make that connection of course so had no idea such a huge amount of time had passed.

I loved the years of the shorts (the early 1930s ones) with Jackie Cooper in them and his never ending love for Miss Crabtree the school teacher.

I just thought Jackie Cooper was cute when I was 6-8 years old. I had no idea at that age that the shorts were very old and the kids were adults already. This may see strange since the shorts are black/white and have out of date fashions on the characters. I just figured that was the way they were filmed. Maybe because I was living in Southern California near the center of movie-making this did not seem far-fetched in my mind. The kids in the shorts acted like kids I knew in real life so they didn't seem "old-fashioned" to me.

Jackie just appealed to me as a little girl as I developed a huge crush on him. I ended up getting crushes on little boys who resembled him in looks. I guess you can say he was my first "type" when it came to boys.

That is why when I heard the news he had died today at 88 years old it made me feel sad. It was like a part of my childhood had died. It makes me want to dig out my old Our Gang VHS tapes and watch the Jackie Cooper/Miss Crabtree episodes.

I am a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse book series and of the True Blood TV series. This made going out and getting the book very important to me today. It is also a great, fun, lightweight, distraction from all that has been going on in the world.

I shall be hanging out between the covers of this book tonight (and probably the next few days) as I read and reread it. It will get me excited for the new season of True Blood to start up next month.

Everyday style reflection.

I am one of those women who really is casual in my dress when it comes to the everyday. Maybe it is because I am a Californian by birth since everyone dresses very nice but casual down there. They may be wearing jeans and a t-shirt but they are not sloppy, worn-out, ill-fitting, jeans or t-shirt. I have always been the same way. I always make sure it is clean and not too threadbare if I am going to wear something out and about.

I was flipping through a fashion magazine and found a good example of my everyday wear when the days are warm:

Jeans, tank top, and peep-toe wedge heels. I substitute a v-neck tee for the tank top most days (and sometimes wear flip-flops instead of wedge heels) but the rest is about right. Casual, comfortable, yet not sloppy or "rolled out of bed and threw whatever on" looking.

It is really cool to see one's sense of style reflected in a magazine. Many times I see what I want to dress like or what clothes I would not dress in. It is rare to see my daily style sense reflected in a magazine. When it happens, it always makes me smile.

Adam Ant Lives In My Ear Again.

As I mentioned in my last post about Poly Styrene's death, I was a into punk rock as a teen and young adult. I was Gothic/punk rock and spent my weekends at the local punk shows in Spokane, WA with my friends. I also would make mix tapes from the local college radio station of punk/new wave songs from the 70s and early 80s to listen to when not listening to the radio.

I was a punk rock girl who never really got into The Sex Pistols or The Ramones. They were not really to my taste though I adored John Lydon with all his snarky rudeness. I just preferred Lydon in Public Image Ltd and PiL's music to The Sex Pistols. I was more a The Clash, X-Ray Spex, The Damned, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Adam and the Ants girl. I enjoyed the rawness of The Clash and X-Ray Spex and the theater of The Damned, Siouxsie (I even did my make-up like she did!), and, especially, Adam and the Ants.

After hearing of Poly Styrene's death, I went on Youtube and rewatched a lot of the videos of that band...which led me to watching Adam Ant videos.

I had been thinking a lot about Adam Ant in the last month and found out he has an autobiography that was released in the UK. I also found out that Adam Ant had struggled with being bipolar for most his life. Something I had no idea of in my young punk days since it was not public knowledge, at least in the US. It seems that Adam Ant talks about this struggle in his autobiography and it makes me want to read it.

I am in the process of having a friend in the UK get the book for me and send it to me to not have to go through the whole paying too much for it via Amazon or dealing with import/overseas shipping fees. I full of excitement and cannot wait until it is in my hands.

While I was looking at Adam Ant videos at Youtube, I came across a documentary show that aired on Bristish TV about Adam Ant and his struggle with bipolar disorder. It talked about how it affected him throughout the years and was utterly fascinating to watch for me since it never aired in the US.

I spend all of Tuesday evening watching all 8 parts on Youtube and being incredibly wrapped up in it. It was really interesting to hear all about him and it made me admire Adam Ant even more because he accomplished so much despite being bipolar. The documentary makes me want the book he has written even more.

I have always loved Adam Ant's fashion sense (I mentioned it here in my blog a few years back), his sexy aura he emitted, and his music was just so multi-layered in sound. The videos were so epic in scale at a time when most were just of bands playing in a white room with bad video effects added later.

Remember, this was pre-Duran Duran with their epic videos filmed in Sri Lanka (Hungry Like The Wolf) or movie style. According to The Madness of Prince Charming documentary, Adam Ant fought for the money to produce movie-style videos. I am glad he did because his videos are very memorable.

Over the past month I have downloaded two of his albums to my Itunes so I could have them on my Ipod. They brighten up stressful days, make city bus rides go faster (at least in my mind), and make me want to dance. How can one listen to Goody Two Shoes and not want to dance around the room?

I was happy to see that Adam Ant is going to give touring a go this spring/summer in the UK, as well as be part of a few festivals in the UK. I wish him all the best and wish I could catch one of those concerts...but being low on cash and in the US makes that impossible.

So, I will continue to listen to Adam Ant music on my Ipod and await my copy of his autobiography to show up in my mailbox.

Poly Styrene of the X-Ray Spex died yesterday.

I am sure a lot of you are wondering, who is Poly Styrene and who are X-Ray Spex.

The X-Ray Spex were a punk band from England that was in the original punk movement and had a 15 year old, braces on teeth, female, lead singer named Poly Styrene.

As a 21 year old goth/punk I discovered X-Ray Spex after reading the book England's Dreaming: Anarchy, Sex Pistols, Punk Rock, and Beyond by Jon Savage. Savage was part of the England punk scene so the book was full of interviews with people like John Lydon and Poly Styrene...and lots of candid photos from the time period. I became interested in wanting to hear the band so called up the local college station that played alternative music and had them play "Oh Bondage, Up Yours!" during the song request hour.

It was love at first hear to me, who always preferred punk bands like The Clash, Adam and the Ants, and The Damned over The Sex Pistols or The Ramones.

I loved X-Ray Spex so much that I went on a quest to find the album Germ-Free Adolescents which was out of print in 1993. My then boyfriend, John, was able to track it down while on a road trip and made me a cassette copy of the album. I still have that cassette to this day and the album has gone out of print again after being released on CD a few years back.

When, I heard late Monday night that Poly Styrene had passed due to cancer it made me sad. She was quite young at 53 and was on the verge of releasing a new album after years of not being active in the music industry due to being bipolar.

Rest in peace, Poly Styrene.

I wandered downtown in Spokane on Saturday to check out the Earth Day Celebration events. It was a beautiful day with sun and warm temperatures. The turn-out was good since it was held on Main St. which was closed to traffic. I had a pleasant afternoon but was not inspired to take any photos. Well, at least not until I was taken with one of the buildings.

I loved the fire escape being on the front of the building. It just captured my eye and inspired me to take this photo. BTW, that is a resident of the building there on the first floor of the fire escape. He was eating and enjoying the sun while watching the crowds below.

It is now raining and I am hoping that it will not pour down rain on Wednesday because I have a photo shoot scheduled. So, everyone cross your fingers for me that all is well and rain holds off for Wednesday.

Getting Spotlighted and Saturday Planning.

I wish they would have warned me because the first response I got was rather negative and left me wondering where the person heard of my project and how they got my email address. I was alerted to the post by a positive response email that mentioned it. So, a slight heads up would have been cool and cleared up the "WTF??" moment email origin.

So, now I have my first photo shoot for the project on Wednesday and am scrambling to get other photo shoots set up. Hopefully all will work out for me.

Tomorrow I am heading downtown to see what the Earth Day activities are that have been pimped out on Twitter and in The Inlander. I will have camera in hand so photos will be taken.

I get to wear my new necklace tomorrow! I mentioned it here and received it last week in the mail.

I am restarting a project I have been slowly working on on Wednesday of next week.

I also have another person I am working with scheduling a photo shoot for the project at the beginning of next month. I am excited as you can imagine!

The weather is finally nicer and it is time for me to get back to taking photos for my superhero/villain project. I have scheduled my first model and am starting to try and pin down other models to times/days for other shoots for the project. Hopefully, luck will be on my side and I will be working on this up to Comic Con in July.

I am still in search of paying photography jobs because I need income coming in but have faith that I will have some come my way if I keep working for it. My getting the project restarted is the first step toward getting paying jobs since it will get me out and about meeting people.

I am also still tyring to work on the painting for the friend. I actually restarted it because what I was doing didn't feel right and didn't inspire me to work on it. Now, I am having ideas and will run with them. I plan to paint a bit in the next few days and will make the next step in my idea for the painting.

Needless to say, I haven't really been fashion focused lately. I have so much I am working on and also was getting everything set for Comic Con in July. Now, I have all things paid for and situated for Comic Con (a huge relief) and am restarting my project. Maybe my mind will relax a bit more and allow me to long for fashion items that I cannot afford but can write about. We shall see.

Until then, keep on thumbing through those fashion magazines and longing for those shoes you saw online. I know I will.

In 20 to 25 years...

I have long wondered what I would do as I age. Would I still embrace fashion? Would I want to dress up? How would I dress? How would I portray who I was using clothing when I go older?

I have already gone through my Goth/punk stage years ago in the late 80s and early 1990s. That was the time where I wore crazy outfits, colours, and make-up. I guess I have almost entirely working it out of my system to be that "standing out" in fashion. I still have my moments where I dip back into that fashion period in my life but I don't dress that way anymore in my day to day. It just doesn't feel right for me anymore.

So, I wondered, as an artist, how I could keep my fashion sense and still not look "dressing way too young" when I am over 50 or in my 60s.

Then I saw this woman in O Magazine:

She is an artist, over 50, and looks so stylish! I love here two-tone grey/brunette hair (I can only hope my hair looks like that when it goes toward total grey!), the jeans, the red sandals. the jacket, and just the whole way she has pulled her outfit together. I am down with that...except for the silly flower on her jacket which I would instantly get rid of since that sort of thing makes me put on the "Ick!" face.

She looks modern and in style while not looking like she is reaching too hard for her youth. She is what I would like to be as I get older. It gives me hope that I can still be into fashion and dress well as I get older without looking like I am trying too hard to appear young.

She is an inspiration.

Talking About My Inspirations: April 2011

I have been looking through so many fashion magazines recently to pass the time and always seem to be drawn to the same clothing/shoes/accessories in the same adverts. I thought I would make a post showing what catches my eye in the magazines...an "Inspiration" post so to speak.

So take a look at what makes me go "I want that" and ponder adding similar to my personal style.

The orange colour, deep v-neck with the ruffle edge, and the pattern...wow!

I could see myself wearing this outfit. Casual and pulled together. It always catches my eye in the J Brand advert no matter what magazine I am reading.

Love these sandals with the whole lace up the front look.

The sandals and the purse are gorgeous.

This entire outfit makes me want to own it. And I see the advertisement in Elle Magazine every month.

Wow....the black, the earrings, the purse.

I seem to be drawn to extreme v-neck tops/jackets. The amber necklace is gorgeous as well!

Love the colour blocking on these shoes.

Love the fringe on these suede pants and the metallic beading.

Again with the extreme v-neck. I have to get daring some day and give it a try.

These lace-up sandals in this The Limited advert are gorgeous.

Love the look of this MaxMara suit and the whole styling of the outfit.

This ring I have long been eyeing. It is Boucheron and I am so into two finger rings right now.

This The Limited coat needs to be in my closet...and on my body.

So day-glo and so pretty. I am not usually a fan of orange but a lot of orange clothing is catching my eye this season.

This whole outfit in the Tod's advert is gorgeous.

Perfect sunglasses for summer.

My love of grey/taupe rears it's head in this outfit.

I just love there shoes...the peep-toe and the heels on these shoes.

These are the items that have been popping out at me from the pages of W, Elle, Lucky, and Vogue magazines for the past month or two.

Fashion magazines are one of my favorite time-wasters. I love the glossy pages, the interesting outfit ideas they have in photos, and the beautiful advertisements. I think I will always get the print version of magazines because there is something so satisfying about the smell, flossy look, and the feel of the pages. Something that is lost when viewed online or on an Ipad/eReader.

I look forward to magazines showing up in my mailbox each month and my hours spent reading them...and marking things in them to check out online. It is one of my "simple pleasures" that I would be sad to give up.

Spring fashion catches my eye.

I admit it, I am pretty broke at the moment so am having to make do with what I own and add very inexpensive things to my wardrobe this spring. This, of course, does not stop me from seeing things I would love to own when I wander fashion sites online.

Here are some of the most recent fashion items that I have seen and wished I had the money to buy.

Wood platform heels, great colour combo, gorgeous style, and the name of the heel is my hometown! Definitely a pair of shoes I would love to wear.

It is long and chunky in style which I really love. Perfect for little black dresses like the one pictured or with a long dress for a more 70s look.

And now for two long dresses that need to be in my closet.

I have a confession to make: The only white article of clothing I own is a white v-neck tee shirt. I don't even own white underwear or socks.

That is why this dress it so appealing to me. It looks light and airy...juts perfect for a hot summer night/day. I should keep an eye out for something less expensive and similar in style on my wanderings around town.

I am in love with olive green. It is my favorite colour in fact and this dress is that shade. I love the print and the cut of the dress. It would look good with platform heels, wedges, or even flip flops. So easy to dress this maxi dress up (for a night out) or down (so a more casual day look). I am loving it.

And two skirts that caught my eye:

The ruching of the skirt really appeals to me. It is also in a neutral colour that would go with so much that hangs in my closet already. The skirt is also at a length I love...just above the knee. This skirt would fit into my wardrobe with absolutely no problem.

I love the colours in the pattern of the skirt, the style, and the shine! This skirt, as you can see in the photo, would be perfect with a simple white shirt and strappy sandals. I would wear it with my one v-neck, white, tee as a casual/dressy outfit to head out for the evening in. This skirt would get a lot of use from me.

The fish ring is simple and cool. It has a bit of an ancient look to it and I am more attracted to the gold tone version than the silver. This fish ring would feel right at home in my jewelry box.

I love the "oil on water" colour that the necklace has. So modern and funky. I also love the style which would definitely dress-up and funk up an outfit.

Lariat Style Necklace On The Way!

I am so excited!

I have long wanted a lariat style necklace but have found them either too price-y or too cheap looking when I did stumble across them in my store and online site wanderings. It had me a bit bummed because I loved the style and wanted one for my own.

I got the latest Alloy.com catalog in the mail and stumbled across this lariat necklace:

I pondered buying it for exactly 1/2 hour..while looking at my "10% off order" code on the back of the catalog. Then I quickly booted up the computer and bought it. Yes, the quickest purchase I have ever made since I loved the materials: suede/feathers/metal, colour, and the price was right.

I got the email that the package is on the way to me and I am actually excited and planning outfits featuring the necklace.

I think this will be a purchase I will not be regretting. :)

I am still alive...taking a bit of a break from blogging to regroup.

My cat had to be put down this past week due to having cancer and growing so weak and skinny. It was sad because he was such a sweet kitty. The vet said it was time and my family had to agree.

Sheba was just suffering too much and always in pain. He had even stopped eating and wasted from his former hefty self. His sweetness and friendly attitude will be missed. He was always so happy to be in his owners' presence.

R.I.P. Sheba. Hope you are chasing butterflies, lazing in the sun, eating way too much, and getting good scratches in the kitty afterlife.

On top of that, I am scrambling trying to get some jobs lined up this spring and am falling really short. It worries me because I have bills (like everyone else) and they are sucking my savings quickly. I hate having to worry about money and now I do.

It is always on my mind.

I have a little money set aside for going to Comic Con in July and almost have that all situated. I have the 4 day pass, the plane ticket, and will be paying my part of the room fee to a friend soon. I had set away this money because I always make new, positive, contacts at Comic Con and I never know where that may take me. It gets me out of Spokane for a few days and enjoying being around people who love what they are doing for a living.

This year is my year of clearing the clutter and making some changes. It is working out to be exactly what is going on in my life and it involves a lot of self-refection. It also means I need to get working on my photography and fight against the stagnation that has overcome that side of my life.

New Hairdo!

I got a haircut! I changed the style and feel so much perkier and less boring.

Yes, I felt dragged out and boring so needed a change. I was nervous about changing my hair for the first time ever but that is only because I have run up against some people making rather strange comments about what length a woman's hair should be and that was working my mind over a little. I finally shook off the negative comments and did what I wanted with my hair:

The hair is shorter in the back than the front and still needs to grow a bit more in the front to achieve the look I want which is something similar to the one I discussed in THIS POST.

So a new hairstyle to get used to and rock. I am liking it so far and it is so much less hassle than the one I had.

I am glad to see the snow melt and the days slowly warm up enough to break out the heeled pumps and sandals again. I still have to wear them with tights and socks but it isn't an impossible thing to walk around in them this time of year. Well, at least it isn't if we don't get snow on the day I choose to wear them. That is not everyday though and the snow always melts off much to shoe loving pleasure.

I have found a few pairs of heels and sandals I wish I could add to my my spring wardrobe. I thought I would share them with you.

Chunky, studded, and a platform, these sandals are really cool. They would look great with jeans or a skirt and you could rock them with socks and/or tights. They are only $42.00, vegan leather, and I really like them in this taupe colour.

These sandals come in other colours but I am loving the pop of the red colour. I usually wear heeled sandals but in this case, these sandals only have a little bit of a lift to the wedge.

I am so excited to see the new shoes coming out for spring. My feet have been hiding in boots long enough, they need to come out and enjoy the fresh air without freezing.

I have so many basics in my wardrobe that I feel it is time to inject some fun into it. This means going back to taking risks, digging back into the drive that made me dress different from the herd when a teenager/early twenties woman.

I know it seems weird to need to add some fun to a wardrobe but I went through a change of personal style a few years ago and found it was best to replace all my basics first because they are the foundation of an outfit. So, now that I have the basics it is time to add fun pieces to perk up what I wear.

Maybe a jumpsuit like this:

I am usually not a fan of jumpsuits because they can make you look like you are dressing like an infant. This one looks fun and has the belt so you don't have the appearance of having no figure a lot of jumpsuits project. I like the colour as well and it would look great with so many of my shoes.

The skirt is still in neutral tones but the stripes draw the eye and the length is great. Perfect for wearing bold shoes/heels with.

The colours in the dress are so 1970s which is a huge draw for me! I love how casual dressy it is and the style I could definitely see myself wearing it, often.

I own many scarves but none that have tassels along the edges like this one has. The darker grey colour would make it a good choice to wear with neutral clothing or blue jeans. The material is light-weight so it won't overheat my neck. I am loving it!

I would wear this top until it unraveled from use! I could throw it over a v-neck tee and jeans, over a dress, over a tank top, and just incorporate it into so many outfits! I definitely love this top and am seriously pondering buying it.

I am starting to try and make my wardrobe more fun while still staying true to my style. I know that I will get bolder and bolder with my choices now that the basics are there. This will be fun and exciting for me as the spring blossoms around me and spring clothing offerings increase.

Painting Time Ahead!

I am about to start on a painting. Yes, and acrylic painting on canvas, not walls of a room.

I started my college years studying the fine arts. I loved being in the art building all day and really loved my acrylic painting class. The instructor of that class loved my work, he really encouraged me, and I always looked forward to that 4 hour block of my day. Yes, the acrylic painting class was 4 hours long and that really seemed way too short on time to work on the paintings.

My favorite painting I did in that class was this one:

The assignment was to give human personality to a car. I just love the colours I put to use in the painting, as well as the texture which doesn't translate in the photo, and, one day, it will hang on the wall of my own place. Right now, it sits in storage since I am living in one room.

I switched my major to Photography after being utterly disgusted that the only thing the Fine Arts program prepared anyone for at the community college I went to was to go and study to be an art teacher. I am not of the teacher personality or mindset yet the instructor that was suppose to mentor me at the art building kept pressuring me to go into that line of work. I packed it in as a fine arts student 10 credits from a Fine Arts degree and switched to photography because at least in that course of studies, they didn't try and mold you into art teachers.

I have painted off and on over the years since my time in the Fine Arts program and always feel so relaxed and "in my element" when I am painting. I haven't gotten to paint as much as I would like in recent years due to limited space where I live. I also have been caught up in the world of photography.

At the beginning of the year, a long time friend decided to redecorate his home and asked me if I still did paintings. I asked why and he said he wanted me to paint something for him and he would pay me for it. He even offered to pay for the paints and canvas as well as the painting when I completed it. I said, "Oh hell yeah!" and yesterday I went to the art supply store, bought paints and canvas, and now am trying to decide how abstract I will go with the painting I have in mind. I will set brush to canvas tomorrow night to lay down the background.

I am stoked!

So, if I seem a bit quiet these days it is because I am buried in the world of art and creativity. I will try and post as often as I can but I can lose track of time when I get painting.

Fun Boots For Rainy Weather.

I always think about wearing boots when it rains. The idea of wet feet does not appeal to me and this time of year, there is always the chance of snow or slushy rain due to the temperature rapidly fluctuating. It is better to be safe than sorry and walking around with cold, damp, feet.

Since the fashion season is changing, there are many great, boots to choose from that looks very cool when sported with tights, knee-high socks, and skirts. I have found two pairs that just thrill me and call to my shoe-girl soul.

The matte finish and the red, back, zipper just really make these rubber rain boots stand out form the pack. I also love the buckle at the ankle which lends a bit of a military look to them. If I were to purchase rubber rain boots (which I never have) these would be the ones.

The Raggae boot are definitely a motorcycle boot in style. I am loving the three buckles on them which can be adjusted to fit the legs. Something I always look for since I have thinner legs that swim in most non-adjustable boots. It also means you can wear chunky socks like the model is wearing in this photo. You just adjust the boot buckles to allow for the extra sock bulk.

I am just a fan of the black version because they seem "tougher" and more classic in looks.

I have long drooled over peep-toe Christian Louboutin pumps but haven't been able to get a pair because of the price tag. So, I have been looking for a pair of black, peep toe, pumps that would work for me and would be affordable.

I love the platform and the sturdy looking heel. I also LOVE that there is a lug sole so I would not be sliding around on polished floors in them. An always frustrating and embarrassing occurrence that happens with smooth., leather soled, shoes. That is a huge plus for these shoes in my eyes. The price tag is right for these shoes to not cost a lot of money at $33.50.

I just may have to consider buying to wear until the day comes when I can afford Louboutins.

I was wandering the Internet, looking for fashion inspiration, when I came across three blouses that would fit nicely into my wardrobe this spring.

I love the neckline and the beaded sleeves on the blouse. The colour fits in to my wardrobe which is a lot of grey, taupe, and other neutrals. Most importantly, the blouse looks light-weight and comfortable which is very important to me.

The blouse is in my favorite shade of green and I love the lace-up detail on the shoulder straps, as well as the draped neck. It is a casual top for warmer days which spring (I hope) will have. Definitely modern in look which also appeals to me.

This tank I would definitely wear when going out. It has a casual yet dressy look to it with the grey tank underneath the more fancy mirrored chiffon layer. I love the mirrored appliques a lot and the deep scoop of the chiffon arm holes. Just beautiful.

It is fun to see what spring holds in store for fashion and it makes me look forward to the temperature warming up so I put away the coat, hat, scarf, and gloves.

I was watching Hawaii 5-O this past Monday and couldn't help but drool over Kono's (Grace Park) necklace she wore on that episode.

Lip Gloss Karma!

Remember how I wrote that I loved Avon's Glazewear Lip Gloss last month?

Well, I entered a contest at Lucky Magazine and won 14 tubes of the stuff in every shade offered and some limited edition colours as well! All arrived in the mail today.

I had good lip gloss karma!

I love Glazewear gloss and will be having fun wearing it in various different shades, over lipstick or alone, and throughout this year.

Sometimes, I want to try out a style but don't want to spend a lot of money on the trying it out. When this happens, I look to stores like Forever 21 or H&M to give me a cheaper alternative in case the style doesn't work for me.

The following are a few things I would love to try out this spring but I am limited in cash flow so would not want to take huge risks in trying something new if it turned out that the clothes did not look good on me. So, I am considering using Forever 21 (and other sites like it) to try out different clothing styles that I have never worn before but captures my eye.

I have long wanted to try out a floral dress like this one:

I have never worn a dress in this style and the shortness is a bit worrying to me since I hate sitting down and having my underwear clad butt directly on the seat. Ick!

I do love the print, the sheer overlay, the neckline, and the sleeves on this dress. It would be a dress I merely wanted to give a try-out to to see if it suited me and it is easier to just try it out when it costs $34.00.

Another thing I want to try out is flirty skirt like this one:

It is another style I have never tried when it comes to skirts. My major worry is my legs are rather long and thin and I am not sure it would hang well on me. If short skirts flounce too much it gives me that "starved" look since I am slim in body but have women's hips. It is enough of a worry for me to not want to spend much on this style. Forever 21 is offering this skirt for $14.80 so I could take the chance and give it try.

I have wanted to try out tailored looking shorts for a while. They just look so good with long socks and chunky heels. This pair caught my eye:

Shorts like these give me the same worry as the skirt. They can make my legs look like sticks if not cut exactly right. I would try this pair out without the worry of overspending since they cost $17.80. I could decide if they worked well for me without the hit to my savings. It would also tell me how much use I would get out of them if they did suit me.

I really like the retro 1970's clothing because I can be sure they will work well on my tall, thin, body. Yet, I am not a huge wearer of dresses so when I want to rock a lace-y, white, 70s, retro dress, I would rather not spend much on it.

I have long wanted to wear a dress like this but I am not a person who wears a lot of white. White seems to attract every stain to me like a magnet. That is enough to almost make me avoid white clothing all together but I have a love for how crisp white looks.

I love the lace and the bell sleeves of this dress. I also like the length and how it is not too body hugging but defines the body at the same time. I wear a lot of tighter fitting clothing so this would be a nice addition. Plus it would expand my meager dress collection to 4 dresses. The best part? The dress is $38.00 so I would have little buyer's remorse is I ended up not wearing the dress very often.

The style is perfect but in this case it is the colour that gives me pause. I am not into orange and it can make me look "yellowish" in complexion so I have to be careful in the shade of orange I wear. For this reason, I would buy this $19.80 version so that I would feel perfectly fine giving it away to a friend or charity if it turned out to really not look good on me or I didn't want to wear it because of the colour.

Yes, I know, it comes in blue but it doesn't appeal to me in the blue colour...only the orange. Orange is such a gamble when it comes to how it gets along with me so I would be happy not spending a lot of money on the top in case we just didn't get along.

I believe that if you are trying something out that you are not sure will work for you in fashion, you shouldn't have to pay an arm and a leg just to find out it just isn't going to be a good relationship between the two of you. I am sure a lot of us have clothes we bought because of "eye appeal" and disliked once we tried to wear them.

Yet we hang on to these pieces because of the money we have spent on them. They live in our closets, not being worn but not being given away because of the amount put into acquiring them. This shouldn't have to happen.

I have started to try and break that habit and buy the cheaper version of fashion "try outs" to seem if they work for me. Then if they do, I look for higher quality versions and spend the money. It saves my bank account from bad fashion risks piling up and taking up space in closets and drawers.

I really am intrigued by these sock boots.

They just look so casual and comfy. They are, basically, the slipper boot taken to a higher level of cool.

I love that the design on the boots has the black stripe to divide the front design from the back.

I love the knit style and the solid sole so that you can truly wear them out and about on your casual dressing days. I would so buy them if I had the money for them right now.

And somewhat related (Hey, we are talking fashion for the feet that is comfy after all!), I found the moccasins I wore as a kid being sold at Shopbop.com.

Of course, my childhood moccasins were more orange in the brown colour scheme and did not have a rubber sole.

My childhood moccasins had the true moccasin leather sole that ended up being worn through after being worn shiny from walking around in them constantly. They also were not good for walking on rocky or pebbly ground because I felt every little thing on the pavement through the soles. So, the rubber sole addition is a good thing.

They did have the eagle bead design on them just like the modern version does.

Just my own colour preference speaking here. They are still affordable at $40,00 which is pretty good when my childhood pair were bought for around $15.00 at a cowboy/western boot store in Pocatello, Idaho in the early 1980s.

If you want to grab a pair they come in many suede colours and I am sure they are just as comfy as they were when I wore them as a child.

Consider me baffled. Why you may ask? Well, I am not sure why this dress:

Would be sold out on the site it is on. It is $394 to begin with and that is a bit hefty a price tag for a dress that looks like a reject form a superheroes themed show.

The breast area on the dress isn't even attractive or enhancing "the girls" in any way, shape, or form. The half and half colour scheme of the breast area just makes the breasts look...ill-formed.

The styling of the outfit at the site is laughable as well. With a 80's aerobics headband and clunky, black, thigh high, suede, boots...really??? It makes the dress appear even more tacky. Maybe tacky is in and I missed the memo?

I am all for fun dressing ideas and pushing the envelope in fashion but there is just some aspects of fashion that will always baffle me. I think this dress will reside in that category because I am not seeing the appeal.

I am just not understanding what is so special about it that it is so spendy and sold out.

Someone enlighten me, please?

I know I have been giving this dress the glad-eye and pondering if it would look good on me. The minus? It costs $151.00 and that is way out of my budget.

Well, today I was looking around clothing sites and came across this dress at Lulus.com.

It is similar in style to the Akido dress but a lot easier on the bank account at $59.00. I actually like the print on the Collective Concepts dress a bit more.

You can get a similar look for less if you just keep an eye out and check what other stores/websites have to offer. You just have to have to be patient and keep looking. It can be very rewarding when you find what you have been looking for and save a little money.

My mum, the Avon representative, gifted me these two things as Christmas gifts.

The shirt is made out of sweatshirt material minus the fuzzy, next to the skin, side but is surprisingly warm. It is tunic length and has a modest v-neck, not extremely deep but just v-ed enough. The shirt is very comfortable and perfect for cold weather.

These gloves are extremely warm and have the option to be made into fingerless gloves. The sequins with the beads in the center that adorn them give them an extra sparkle. They are a lot darker in shade than in the product photo which I like. Definitely a great pair of gloves.

The very cold weather we have been having makes for fun winter, layering, outfits and the need to stay warm is very important. I am glad I got some warmer gifts this holiday season that I can put to good use when the temperature drops to 28 (F).

Grunge Is Back?

It looks like Modcloth.com is channeling the spirit of Kurt Cobain of Nirvana a bit when it comes to a few of their recent clothing offerings.

Kurt had a green cardigan he wore to tatters. You can see it in the video Come As U Are:

Not only is it my favorite Nirvana song but I longed for his green cardigan back when the video came out. That fact alone makes me seriously consider buying the cardigan at Modcloth...a delayed finding of a long-time want.

The sweater is also like something Kurt Cobain would have worn. He seemed to wear secondhand clothing which accounts for a lot of the cool but worn looking clothing he wore. This red striped sweater could easily have been something he would have been spotted sporting.

It will be interesting to see what other grunge inspired clothing comes back into the current fashion world. I know Doc Martens have become popular again with their new "high heeled" boots.

It is always fascinating when a style that I have already lived through the first time around shows up on the street and in fashion magazines again. It peaks my interest to see what remains the same and what is updated to fit current tastes when this happens. So, I will be keeping an eye out for grungewear and see how the new version looks.

De-Cluttering and Organizing in 2011.

I have decided that this year I am going to aim to de-clutter my life and get it more organized. I have been living in one room and it is really getting cluttered with stuff. Most of this clutter I do need but it is starting to close in on mea bit and I need to really focus on de-cluttering this room so my mind has more room to roam and be creative. I hate the fact I am stuck in one room but I have to make do for now and this means I need to make choices on what I am keeping and what I just don't need anymore. I do not want to be stuck with bags and bags of garbage when I eventually end up packing and moving like I had when I moved to San Diego in 2002.

This means:

- I am going to get rid of those clothes I never wear.

I know everyone one has at least one or two items of clothing that they hold on to thinking they will wear it in the future. I need to let go of one or two of mine and some are things that no longer fit. Just lighten the load so I can have room for things I will need to replace.

-I need to get rid of books I no longer want or read.

These I will probably attempt to sell on Amazon.com since getting even a few dollars back on books that are in perfect condition but just do not want anymore is always a good thing. I have lots of books so it won't make a huge dent to sell books I will never read again but it will free up some space, hopefully.

-I need to throw out random bags (from stores), odds and ends, and papers that have no use to me anymore.

I hate feeling like a pack rat or hoarder so I need to look through everything and get rid of what I no longer need. I just have too much excess stuff that I don't ever use. It needs to go.

-I need to organize things better.

Get stores containers for some things. Sort through others and straighten the piles left behind. This extends to all parts of my life. My organization skills are so lax right now and I am finding it is having an effect on my mental state to have turmoil everywhere.

-I need to revamp my website and possibly change it's URL.

This will be a huge deal and I will focus on it more as the month carries on. It is something I need to do because things are in limbo with my site at the moment and I need to fix that. I also need to consolidate and sort through images...burn photos to disc and off my hard-drive. Revamp the business side of my life so it gets more creative again.

-I need to take a hard look at the people who are in my life.

I am getting a bit tired of people who are negative and unsupportive constantly nagging at me and expecting me to fit their boxes of how life should be and people should be. I have a few too many of these people in my life. I need to keep the positive friends/people and make more positive friends. People who see the world as a wonderful place, have fun, and have more good days than bad. All while letting go of people who cause stress and negativity in my interactions with them. This is very important because my life has enough drama and turmoil in it from time to time. I really don't need the added stress of someone who is negative towards me, disrespectful, or unsupportive to me. Yes, it sounds a bit harsh but it is something that needs to be done.

Hopefully, this will led to me having more free space to tap into my creative side and less stress getting in way of productivity.

Yes, a serious, unfashion related, post from me. People are posting their New Years resolutions and I figured I would post my New Years plans since I refuse to call anything a "resolution" since not many people keep those. Next post will be more on subject and about fashion. I promise.

I got these shoes for Christmas:

Pointy heels!!! I have never owned pointy heeled shoes before and I found I cannot walk on carpet well in this type of heel. No matter because as soon as the snow takes a hike (in about three months) I shall be wearing these shoes out and about. Of course, I will give them a trial run to see if they kill my feet first before walking all over town in them.

So, I scored when it came to shoes for Christmas...but I failed with another gift....

It was gifted to me by my mum and it was too small. :(

I followed the measurements on the site for sizing and I could not get the back zip all the way up in a "small" though the dimensions of the skirt were correct. Now, they have sold out of everything but "large" size so I am out of luck with that skirt. :(

I am wondering if the "medium" would even fit since a size up means more fabric and I just had a bit of a zip close issue. A "missed it by that much" on the zipper closure. So it is possible a "medium" would be too gappy.

But, I got cool shoes...so all is well in my world at the moment.

I have been dreaming of San Diego, California a lot these past few weeks. I was born there and try to get back there once a year. It is where my heart is a lot of the time and while I would love to live in Seattle because I like the landscape, rain, and mood of the west side of Washington state...my heart will always hold a very special place for San Diego.

I came across this necklace yesterday and instantly had to send it to family members as a birthday present idea for me.

All three pieces look "barely there" on the hand or neck.

That is not a bad thing...it just gives a tiny bit of accent to the wearer instead of really drawing the eye like a larger piece of jewelry would.

Last year, I bought myself a daily planner because I am one of those people that can fall into periods of procrastination which halts my productivity. I figured a daily planner, set up in a style that suited me, would help me out in conquering this tendency in myself to "put off until later" things I should do.

It worked.

While using a daily planner did not conquer the tendency entirely, it did make it a lot less often that I fall into procrastination. It helped that the daily planner I bought, broke up days into list form which really appeals to me. I have always been a list maker since a very young age, be it lists of bands I liked, lists of movies I wanted to see, or lists of books I wanted to read. I also have the tendency to revisit the lists I make and cross or check off the items I do, see, read. So a list form of daily planner is perfect for me. I can just write down what I need to do and then go back and check off what I have completed that day.

Moleskines has the best daily planners for my style. I have ordered and received one to use in 2011 and am excited to start filling it up with plans and things to do.

I wanted something more compact than last year's planner so chose this one:

I love the style which is clean and reminds me of sketchbooks. I love the set up of the days which allows me to make my lists of things to do.

I also love the place to put the temperature of the day and weather type at the bottom of the page. That also is very appealing to me.

So, I am set with my new daily planner and really cannot wait to start using it. Bring on 2011!

Favorite Budget Friendly Lip Glosses!

I buy make-up that fits within my budget and tend to try new products out when I wander Walgreen's. Still, despite the many tubes of lip gloss I have tried there are 3 different kinds that are my "go to" glosses.

The first is Avon's Glazewear:

My mum is an Avon representative and she gave me my first tube of Glazewear lip gloss many years ago to try. I loved it! The gloss is long wearing, not too sticky, doesn't dry out your lips, and if you put it over lipstick, it extends the wear of the lipstick. This lip gloss is my "go to" lip gloss and isn't horribly expensive at $6.00 a tube. They have many shades which add a sheer tint to you lips and are always adding new colours, as well as limited time colours, to the line. If you haven't given this gloss a try, do check it out.

The second is Lipicious Lip Gloss at Bath and Body Works:

Lipicious lip glosses come in many flavors...yes, they are flavored as well as long lasting! My favorite is the Frozen Daiquiri that I have pictured here. Some of the glosses are matte and others have a bit of sparkle to them. All are long lasting, taste great, and are great to use over lipsticks as well as alone.

Unlike the Glazewear, Lipicious does not really add colour to your lips so much as add a glossy shine though the matte colour versions add a tiny bit of colour. They are not horribly sticky though your hair may stick to your lips with this product. The gloss is long-lasting ( as is the flavor), it does not dry out your lips, and is only $7.00 a tube.

The third, and last, favorite lip gloss is mark Juice Gems by Avon:

Juice gems has a thicker formula so it really makes your lips feel glossy. It is non-drying to your lips, long-lasting, and produces a nice shine since all colours have added sparkle. It is lightly tinted so is fun to put on alone or over lipstick to give lipstick the added shine. Juice gems comes in many flavors, my favorite being Juicy Honeydew, so there is a flavor to appeal to everyone. It is $6.50 a tube and the tube is a little bit larger than most I have come across.

All these glosses are the ones I keep in heavy rotation and are affordable yet not so cheap that they do not last long on the lips. If you haven't given them a try, I highly recommend each one.

The Inner Shoes Girl Loves Inexpensive Shoes.

I have been looking at shoes a lot lately because I have a very vocal, inner, shoe girl who insists I must look at shoes and consider buying them. She has expensive tastes but occasionally is thrilled to find cool, interesting, unique shoes that are less expensive. When that happens she tells me I must share them so that is what I am doing in this post.

In the grey, snake stamped, version They look more my style and would fit better into my wardrobe. They are the same price ($98) as the light tan version.

I am loving platform sandals right now which is amusing since it is snowy outside. I am guessing my inner shoe girl is looking forward to spring. She loves these sandals because they are slightly retro and the bow embellishment on the toe is appealing. She also loved that the shoes are $32 which is quite affordable.

I love strappy heels and these totally fit that bill. The khaki colour is perfect and the criss-cross ensures me that my feet will be well strapped in. These sandals are also $32 and would be great for when the weather starts to warm up this spring.

I am totally loving the heels of these pumps. The two tier platform style is so modern! I love that the heel of these shoes are what is cheetah print so the print does not overwhelm the shoe. It seems I am not the only person who's eye was caught by these pumps since they are currently sold out at Lulus.com. It is not surprise if you add the fact that they were $35 to the coolness of the style. Maybe they will get them back in?

The gold, glitter, wedges give a nod to the 1970s and Disco. They look like fun shoes for going out or wearing to a party. Definitely not too over-the-top in their gold sparkle which makes them very versatile. You can snap them up for $33 and wear them anywhere you like.

All these shoe finds were at Lulus.com which is a fun site to find less expensive fashion with an indie feel to it. It is one of my favorite surfing grounds when online.

I saw quite a few shoes that I loved while wandering the Internet this afternoon. Most of them at a site called Nasty Girl where there is a wide selection of Jeffrey Campbell shoes.

I am not a huge fan of pink but these caught my eye. They would look great with tights and/or socks.

Very 1970s and look like they would have been worn in the film Almost Famous. I love them and would wear them often.

They are very retro 70s as well and I love the colour of them. I would be teaming them with socks or wearing them sockless with flared jeans in warm weather.

And then the site has a pair of socks I would be happy to own:

They would look great alone with a short dress/skirt and platform shoes. They would also look great over tights. They are $18 so under my $20 spending limit for socks since socks do not last very long before they get holes in the toes. I just cannot see the point of buying expensive socks that are only going to be worn a season before they get holes in the toes or elsewhere.

I may have to check back at Nasty Girl occasionally to see what new shoes they get in stock. Definitely a great find for me site-wise as their selection of shoes has quite a few that match my personal style.

Found: Jeffrey Campbell Loafer Heels!

If you remember, I found some real drool-worthy, loafer-style, shoes by Fendi while surfing the clothing sites a while back. They were gorgeous but expensive.

Well, tonight I was at Modcloth looking at what was offered in their "new arrivals" section and I came across these loafer heels:

Yes, that is right, Jeffrey Campbell designed the shoe and they are not as price-y at $131.95. They are a very versatile colour and have a softly, padded, inner sole for comfort in walking. So, anyone looking for less expensive, yet well-made loafer heels may want to snap these up.

Me, I am going to continue browsing the offerings out there to see what else I can find since I still love the Fendis a lot more.
